Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host newly crowned champions Liverpool.
Enzo Maresca’s side have one foot in the Europa Conference League final after beating Djurgarden 4-1 in the first leg of their semi-final on Thursday night, but domestically the Blues have struggled since he turn of the year.
Those in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment will likely want to bolster Maresca’s squad this summer, and it appears that the West London side are eyeing a move for a Bundesliga star.
According to Christian Falk via CaughtOffside, Chelsea remain interested in Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
The Englishman spent time at Chelsea’s Cobham academy as a youngster, and Falk claims that one of his former coaches in West London has already made contact with the player.
Gittens is a target for former club Chelsea
It is also claimed that the Blues could look to complete a swap deal involving Gittens and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, who is currently on loan at Dortmund.
Gittens joined Dortmund in 2020 after leaving Manchester City’s academy, and has forced his way into the first team over the past couple of seasons.
In total he has now played more than 100 times for the German side across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists.
This season he has scored 12 goals in 45 games, as well as registering five assists.
The England Under-21 international is currently under contract until the end of the 2027/28 season, but it appears that the Bundesliga outfit may face a battle to keep hold of the winger beyond this summer.
While Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all said to have shown interest in the player, the report claims that it is Chelsea that have shown the most concrete interest in the player ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
