Arsenal are reportedly open to considering a swap deal with Real Madrid for midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, which would see star defender William Saliba head the other way, as per Fichajes.
The Gunners have enjoyed one of the most imperious defences in Europe and that is partly thanks to the quality of their French ace at centre-back. Saliba is firmly among the best in his position on the planet, which is precisely why Los Blancos are desperate to add him to their star-studded squad.
Mikel Arteta is keen to keep the 24-year-old, but reports suggest a player exchange could entice him and his entourage into negotiating a sale.
Report: Arsenal Propose Saliba and Tchouameni Swap Deal
Real Madrid do not want to part ways with their midfielder
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid see Saliba as the "perfect fit" to bolster their defence, but Arsenal are adamant on keeping their man unless they receive a player in return - namely Tchouameni.
The report suggests that Arteta would be "delighted" to add the 25-year-old to his squad this summer. Dubbed "world-class", Tchouameni has impressed in 48 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring two and assisting one in the process.
Arsenal are increasingly likely to welcome Real Sociedad technician Martin Zubimendi this summer, ending a long-winded transfer saga. The Spaniard is expected to replace Jorginho as part of Arteta's midfield rebuild plans, and there are also talks ongoing for Thomas Partey's contract renewal.

However, if the North Londoners are able to secure Tchouameni's signature instead, it would mean they can transition past the duo of Partey and Jorginho, 31 and 33 respectively, entirely in one summer window.
Ultimately, Madrid are reluctant to let Tchouameni depart, even if it would increase their chances of landing Saliba in return. The defender's current agreement is set to expire in 2027, and so the La Liga heavyweights are expected to bide their time in the hopes that he does not renew his deal at the Emirates.
