Report: Liverpool set to table offer to sign £410,000-a-week star for Arne Slot

Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer in the region of €40 million (£34 million) to sign Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, as per Fichajes.

The Premier League champions are looking ahead to how they can best prepare the Reds' squad ahead of next season, and Arne Slot is keen to bolster his midfield options. This was also the case last summer, and Liverpool were in pursuit of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, but the Spaniard opted to stay put in Spain instead.

The club did not return to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window either, but it is increasingly likely that they will add a new reinforcement to this department in the upcoming summer transfer window, with De Jong a player on their radar.

Liverpool Interested in Barcelona Midfielder De Jong

His contract expires in 2026

According to Fichajes, Liverpool have identified De Jong as a potential "key player" for Slot's squad. Barcelona's financial situation has placed them in a position where they are considering big-money sales, and the Dutchman could be their opportunity to raise important funds.

De Jong would reportedly prefer to stay with the Blaugrana, where he is currently raking in an eye-watering £415,000 per week in wages, but he will soon enter into the final 12 months of his agreement.

Previously dubbed "world-class", De Jong was one of the most sought-after players on the planet before Barcelona tied him down to the Nou Camp for a £65 million fee from Ajax in 2019. His quality has rarely been in doubt, but he has fallen down the pecking order this season.

De Jong could partner Ryan Gravenberch in the middle of the park at Anfield, forming a firm Dutch core at the heart of Slot's tactical set-up. But Liverpool will need to fend off interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City in the race for the Barcelona ace.
