Both Chelsea and Crystal Palace are looking to make some significant changes on the summer transfer window.
Chelsea have had an interesting Premier League season — from challenging Liverpool at the top of the table earlier in the season, to now battling it out in this thrilling fight for top five.
The Blues have a lot to consider for their summer business as multiple players are expected to leave the club alongside any new recruits. Marc Guehi has emerged as one of their top targets as they eye a potential reunion at Stamford Bridge.
Guehi is one of the most sought-after defenders in the world right now. The England international has been on multiple clubs’ radars for months but he is no longer the unattainable target he seemed to be last summer and earlier this year.
With his contract ticking down, the floor is opening up for potential business with Crystal Palace.
Chelsea continue Marc Guehi pursuit
Recent reports have suggested Palace are now open to selling Guehi as they plan for the future. TBR Football has reported that the Eagles will be looking to recoup a minimum of £40 million for the centre-back, which is significantly less than the £70 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur that was rejected during the January window.
However, as there is the looming risk of him leaving for free in 2026, Palace have naturally dropped their asking price. They are also reportedly open to selling Eberechi Eze, with manager Oliver Glasner at peace with the duo leaving, in order to fund a summer restructure.
Chelsea are already looking at a cut price for Guehi, should they officially approach the table, but they could throw in a sweetener to reduce the costs even further.
Chelsea could offer up Carney Chukwuemeka as part of Marc Guehi deal
Crystal Palace were among the clubs interested in signing Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka during the winter. The Eagles had been looking at a potential swoop prior to his loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
The interest spans back to last summer, too. South London Press reported in August 2024 that Palace were ‘looking to make a play’ to sign Chukwuemeka, should Chelsea have made him available. Sporting director Dougie Freedman is said to be an admirer of the 21-year-old, who is seeking a more regular role after being mainly a rotational player at Stamford Bridge.
Chukwuemeka’s current contract runs until 2028. Back in December, Ben Jacobs reported that the Blues were looking for around £40-45 million for the midfielder. However, according to Caught Offside, Chelsea could be looking to sell for a lot cheaper at this point.
The report claims that a fee of €25 million (£21m) would be enough for a sale, mainly as Enzo Maresca is ‘worried’ about Chukwuemeka’s development. The Italian manager is concerned the lack of playing time could affect the midfielder, which only further highlights the idea of his permanent departure to seek more regular football.
As Palace are long-standing admirers of the 21-year-old, it’s highly likely he will be given a prominent role at Selhurst Park. The Eagles can sign a target they have been interested in for many months, while still picking up some cash for Guehi to put towards their transfer kitty.
Chelsea will then have made room on their wage bill and snapped up a huge target for a fraction of his initial price this time last year. The Blues are looking to part ways with a number of players this summer in a significant rebuild, and this could be the start to get the ball rolling.
