Liverpool today being their reign as Premier League champions with a visit to Chelsea.

The Reds had the midweek off to revel in their title success, which was sealed with a thumping 5-1 win over Tottenham in a thunderous Anfield atmosphere.

It is Liverpool’s second Premier League crown but 20th top-flight title in total, drawing level with record-holders Manchester United in the all-time rankings.

Liverpool won the season with four games to spare and, as is tradition, will expect to be clapped onto the pitch before each game. They also face Arsenal, Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Will Chelsea give Liverpool a guard of honour today?

Enzo Maresca was asked about the show of respect earlier this week and confirmed that Chelsea will stick with tradition.

Maresca told reporters: “Yes. It's tradition. We have to do that, and we are going to do that. They won the Premier League, so. they deserve it.”

He added: “They are a very good team and deserved to win the Premier League this season.”

Has a guard of honour happened before?

Many times.

Liverpool were treated to a guard of honour during the final seven games of the 2019-20 season, starting with the Manchester City team who they had just dethroned.

City were the last time to receive a guard of honour, having won the title with three games to go in 2022-23. Their first match following their title win was the visit of Chelsea to the Etihad.
