Arsenal U21s and U18s miss out on league title

It was a frustrating day all round for Arsenal yesterday as, in addition to the first-team’s defeat to Bournemouth, the club’s U21 and U18 sides saw their title hopes come to an end.

The U21s, who were without several players who were named on the bench for the first-team, took the lead in the first minute away to Manchester City as Khayon Edwards found the net.

Louie Copley then made it 2-0 with his first strike for the U21s but City staged a comeback and took the game to extra-time after goals from Ashton Muir and Lakyle Samuel.

Divin Mubama then scored the winner for City in extra-time, with Arsenal being knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the Premier League 2 playoffs for the second season in a row.

The U18s went into their game away to Fulham knowing that a win was required to realistically to keep their hopes of securing the title alive.

Despite Max Dowman scoring again and Dan Casey hitting a brace, Arsenal ended up losing 4-3 and it is now mathematically impossible for them to win the title.

There is still one game remaining for the U18s, which sees them take on title-chasing Aston Villa away next Sunday.
