Alisson looked to be in serious trouble during the opening stages of Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Stamford Bridge.
The Reds took on Chelsea, receiving a guard of honour as they walked out. But the niceties were soon over when Enzo Fernandez put the Blues ahead after just three minutes.
It then threatened to get worse for Liverpool as Alisson came flying out of his box and wiped out Nicolas Jackson with an uncompromising late challenge.
However, the Brazilian was spared as the linesman’s flag was immediately raised after the contact, as play had continued to allow the attack to play out, as per the VAR guidelines.
But fans were left furious with the decision as some called for Alisson to be punished for his tackle despite the obvious offside call against Jackson stopping him from being sent off and giving away a free-kick as last man.

One user wrote on X: “Hes offside but you can still get carded for a bad challenge when the balls not in play. That's a shocker from Alisson.” A second echoed: “I don’t care that he was offside there, that’s a disgusting tackle by Alisson. Could’ve injured Jackson there.”
While a Liverpool fan admitted: “Alisson avoids a straight red thanks to an offside call. So far this feels like you'd imagine the first game after we'd won the title to feel. Half of these look still hungover.”
A fourth argued: “Assuming #LFC fans are all shouting for Alisson to be sent off after they cried for a year about the Pickford-Van Dijk incident saying he still should’ve been sent off?”
Chelsea could have doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as Noni Madueke rounded Alisson to tap into an empty net. But Jackson had again strayed offside, in another obvious call against the striker.
