In pursuit of top four credentials, Chelsea ran out 3–1 victors against the 2024/25 Premier League champions, Liverpool, on Sunday afternoon – and Sky Sports were forced to apologise for Cole Palmer’s post-match interview, which has gone viral.
Back to his best, the ex-Manchester City man strutted with pizzazz in the pockets between Liverpool’s midfield and back four – and he was pivotal in his side’s build-up for their first of the afternoon as Enzo Fernandez finished off a well-worked goal.
Just recently, defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher questioned whether Chelsea was the right club for him – but he’s hit back with vengeance by scoring his first goal: a coolly taken penalty slotted past Alisson Becker with relative ease. Watch it below:

'What people say doesn’t bother me'
From a personal perspective, 2025 has been tough for Palmer – who is widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the Premier League right now – as he’s not been as impactful in the final third as he was in his inaugural campaign in west London.
Palmer, 22, made the jump from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer of 2023 and was a goalscoring revelation in his first season – but that’s not been the case second time round, having last scored in the Premier League back in mid-January.

After contributing to Chelsea’s memorable victory over Liverpool, Manchester-born Palmer spoke to Sky Sports about ending his lengthy goal drought and, in doing so, fired back at the ‘idiots and trolls’ on social media. He said:
“It happens, do you know what I mean? I went three months without scoring, but it just gives me more motivation and more fight to do well – not just for myself, but for my team.”
The 11-cap England international, prior to his side hosting the English champions, had gone 18 games – for club and country – without finding the back of the net like he typically does with poise and admitted that he chooses to ignore the social media abuse.
“Social media nowadays, it’s just full of idiots, full of trolls. I don’t pay no attention to that. But to score today, I’m happy, but it’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving and try to reach new levels,” Palmer insisted alongside Moises Caicedo.

Quizzed on whether he had has endured a ‘tough couple of months, the attacking midfield replied: “[It would be] for anyone. If you’re getting chances and not scoring, you’re letting your team down at the end of the day. I feel like I’m mentally strong anyway.
“So, what people say doesn’t bother me. I’ve had it all my life, so I don’t really care. I feel pride in helping the team and if I’m not doing that, I’m not happy.”
On his bright display against Slot’s men, Palmer concluded: "Today, I felt like myself. I felt confident, I was trying things, first time passes, playing forward, playing free – and when you’ve got him [Moises Caicedo] next to you, it’s a dream really.”
Up next for Palmer and his teammates is playing host to Swedish outfit Djurgarden in the second leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final before travelling up the country to lock horns with Newcastle United, a side they are battling with for a spot in next season's Champions League.
