According to a report by Revelo, as quoted by Football Transfers, Premier League giants Arsenal have held preliminary talks with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
Rodrygo has enjoyed a great time with Madrid but recent reports have suggested that the Brazilian international is not happy with how he is being used in the first-team. The forward will hold talks with the new Madrid manager and if things do not fall into place, he will want to leave the club in the summer.
Rodrygo’s current market value is at €100 million but despite that, he has no shortage of takers. Along with Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Manchester United have all been previously linked with the winger and if the 24-year-old is indeed ready to leave then there will definitely be a complex transfer battle.
Will Arsenal be able to land Rodrygo?
The Brazilian international has scored 68 and assisted 50 goals in 257 games for Real Madrid and he will surely add a lot of value to whichever side he joins in the summer.
However, we do not see playing for Arsenal next season.
The first and major reason is that Rodrygo is a right winger and currently Bukayo Saka occupies that position in the Gunners squad. Saka is without a doubt one of the best wingers in Europe and Mikel Arteta will not want to anger him by adding unwanted competition next season.
Also, Rodrygo is more or less a regular starter for Real Madrid so even he won’t be ready to join a team where he has to fight for a place in the starting lineup every matchweek. He has sometimes played as a centre-forward and unless Mikel Arteta is planning to use him as a striker, Rodrygo has no place in this Arsenal squad.
The second reason why Arsenal will not make much progress is because the forward’s contract with Madrid expires in 2028 and if he wants to leave this summer, Los Blancos can demand anywhere between €120-130 million. Arsenal won’t spend that much money on a right-winger or for a centre-forward. Arteta could pay much less than that and sign top strikers like Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko.
Will the winger quit Real Madrid after six years?
After Carlo Ancelotti’s exit, there will definitely be a revamp because the new manager will want to bring his own players. Rodrygo could be one of the current players who might be sold in order to fund the new transfers but at the same time, Xabi Alonso, or whoever the new manager is, can also put faith in the winger.
Rodrygo might not be world-class based of his goal contributions but the Brazilian international is a proper team player who is always ready to give up the limelight for someone like Mbappe or Vinicius Jr.
Real Madrid, in the past, have made it very clear that almost every player in their squad can be sold so if Arsenal or one of the other interested clubs is willing to pay around €130 million then Florentino Perez won’t think twice before selling him.
