Manchester United are ready to bid for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain via Football365.
It has been a torrid season for Man United, one that will see them finish with their lowest-ever points tally in the Premier League era. Erik ten Hag was dismissed early in the campaign and though there have been slight improvements under his successor, Ruben Amorim, it is clear that there will need to be a lot of investment in the team and Man United are already looking at many potential signings.
Despite exiting both cup competitions and being set for a mid-table finish in the league, Man United could still end the season with a piece of major silverware. Though they have been inconsistent domestically, the Red Devils have been a machine in Europe, yet to taste defeat in the Europa League.
After a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their semi-final at the time of writing, Man United have one foot in the final. Crucially, winning the final would ensure that the club were playing in the Champions League next season, which would prove essential to signing this player in particular.

Ronald Araujo
As per Football365, Man United are ready to make an offer for Ronald Araujo of Barcelona but as briefly aforementioned, the club would need Champions League qualification in order to convince the player into making the move.

Araujo moved to Barcelona in 2018 and since progressing to the senior team the following year, has remained a consistent fixture of the first team, though he has struggled with injuries this season. A Uruguayan international, Araujo has been deployed as a right-back throughout his career, as well as in his natural position of central defence.
Such flexibility, along with his overall ability, will be what makes Araujo so appealing to Amorim. Araujo, who has been called the "best defender in the world" by Barcelona legend Carles Puyol, would fit nicely into the back three of Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and allow others, particularly Noussair Mazraoui, to return to their natural positions within the team.
Champions League football would be crucial for Man United to have any hopes of getting a deal over the line. At 26 years old, Araujo is about to enter his peak years as a player and would certainly be a statement of intent for the Red Devils, who will hope for a swift return to finishing within the European places in the Premier League.
