Keith Hackett has given his analysis of the “careless” Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah after his side were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old can have few complaints about his challenge on Moises Caicedo leading to a spot kick in the final seconds.
Having thrashed Tottenham to claim the Premier League title last weekend, Arne Slot‘s side returned to action with a trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday (4 May).
There, Liverpool suffered just their third league defeat of the season, as they were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea, who boosted their own hopes of Champions League qualification by claiming those three points.

Cole Palmer rounds off scoring from the penalty spot
With the title secured, Liverpool manager Arne Slot named a much changed side to face Chelsea, with Quansah one of those coming in to the lineup for a rare start.
After Enzo Fernandez had given their hosts a half time lead, Chelsea doubled their advantage after the break via an own-goal from the Reds man.

That came after an attempted clearance from Virgil van Dijk deflected off the helpless Quansah and into the back of the Liverpool net.
With less than ten minutes remaining, Van Dijk atoned for that error by heading a goal back for the visitors.

But Quansah then conceded a penalty deep in stoppage time to make the game safe for the hosts, as he stretched for the ball which allowed Caicedo to go down under contact from with the foot of the Reds defender.
Referee Simon Hooper immediately pointed to the spot to award a penalty, a decision which was confirmed to be correct by VAR.
Cole Palmer then capped an excellent performance for Chelsea by converting the spot kick to end his long goal drought and seal a 3-1 win for the home side.
Now, Hackett has criticised Quansah’s play, saying he can have no complaints about the decision to penalise him with a penalty, after giving Caicedo the chance to go to ground.
Liverpool star’s challenge analysed
After being asked by Football Insider about the penalty conceded by the young centre-back, Hackett said:
“I think it’s a careless challenge by the Liverpool player. There’s no doubts that a player in that situation is looking for it.
“I think this is where defenders have to take great care. There’s contact, Hooper is in a good position, he didn’t even hesitate to award it, I think he got the decision right.
“It’s a careless challenge by the defender and he ought to know that if he does that and the player goes down they’re going to get a penalty kick.
“Ultimately what the player will do, the attacker, he’ll use his foot as a hook, so he manufactures contact then asks the question of the referee.”
