Arsenal are eager to strengthen their squad this summer, as they look to dethrone Premier League champions Liverpool next season
Arsenal are crying out for attacking reinforcements this summer ahead of next season. They have fallen short of Liverpool in the title race in this campaign, but will want to target another push for top spot again next term. The Gunners don’t have too much depth at the top end of the pitch and need more bodies in their squad.
Injuries to players in that department like Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus haven’t helped their cause. They have had to play midfielder Mikel Merino up front for the past couple of months which isn’t been ideal and if they had signed someone in that position back in January, they would have been in a far better place. Mikel Arteta’s side have three more league fixtures left to get through.
Arsenal eye Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Arsenal are interested in a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens in the upcoming transfer window. The report adds that they face competition for his signature from rivals Chelsea. The player is said to be valued at around the £80 million mark, as per Bild, meaning he requires a hefty price tag.
Gittens, 20, could be seen by the Gunners as someone to bolster their attacking department. He is young, has bags of potential and would be a shrewd long-term addition if they were able to lure him to the Emirates Stadium. His contract in Germany expires in June 2029, meaning his current club are under no pressure to sell him yet and can hold out for a big price.
The youngster would give Arteta another option to pick from on the wing. If he joined, he could battle it out with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinello and Leandro Trossard for a place in the starting XI. He is a decade younger than the latter, who could well head for pastures new this summer.
Gittens, an early entry in our ‘Wonderkid Files’ series back in 2023, played in the academies at Reading, Chelsea and Manchester City before Dortmund came calling. He has since broken into their first-team and has proved himself in the Bundesliga. The England youth international has scored 17 goals in 102 games, 12 of which have come this season.
Arsenal should offer Oleksandr Zinchenko to Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Gittens and could tussle with Arsenal. They could offer out of favour players like Carney Chukwuemeka, for example, in an attempt to try and tempt Dortmund into selling. The 21-year-old has been on loan with Niko Kovac’s side since January.
However, Arsenal may have an ace up their sleeves themselves. Football Insider have claimed Dortmund are keen admirers of Oleksandr Zinchenko. The London outfit should give them the Ukraine international plus cash to get Gittens back over to England.
Zinchenko, 28, has seen his game time dry up over recent times and an exit would suit all parties involved. Cutting ties with the left-back would help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for new arrivals. It would also help him go somewhere he is guaranteed to get more minutes which is what he needs.
He is out of contract in June 2026 meaning Arsenal risk losing him for free next year if they don’t sell him for cash now or next January. They signed him back in 2022 and he has since played 89 matches altogether. He has scored three goals from the back.
Prior to his move, he spent six years at Manchester City. He was also loaned out to PSV during his time at the Etihad Stadium. He made 128 outings under Pep Guardiola and won the league title, FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his days in the North West.
