Arsenal have an important summer ahead on the transfer front
Arsenal have the opportunity to freshen up their ranks this summer with some reinforcements. They could do with bringing in some new options at the top end of the pitch. The Gunners also have the chance to let some players head out the exit door to free up space and funds.
Mikel Arteta’s side have fallen short in the title race again this season. They will hope that they can challenge for top spot again next year. The London outfit have missed out this time to Liverpool.
Arsenal midfield pair out of contract
Arsenal risk losing Thomas Partey, who is valued at £13million on Transfermarkt, for free at the end of next month. His deal at the Emirates Stadium expires and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension. He is due to become available as a free agent as things stand.
Partey, 31, joined the Gunners back in 2020 to boost their midfield ranks. Prior to his switch to England, he was a key player for Atletico Madrid in La Liga. He has made 163 appearances in all competitions for his current club to date and has scored nine goals, four of whcih have come in this campaign.
Jorginho is also facing an uncertain future at Arsenal. Like Partey, his contract runs out when this term ends. However, they hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months on top of that until 2027, should they wish to. He currently provides competition and depth to their midfield ranks but isn’t guaranteed a regular starting place due to Declan Rice being ahead of him in the pecking order.
Kieran Tierney is poised to join up with Celtic, as per Sky Sports. He will return to Celtic Park later this year permanently. He rose up through the Hoops’ youth ranks and broke into their first-team as a youngster before heading down the Scottish border.
Arsenal youngsters and loanees facing uncertain futures
Neto is due to leave Arsenal when his loan from AFC Bournemouth comes to an end. He was given the green light to cut ties with the Cherries on a temporary basis last year and he has since provided back-up between the sticks. The stopper has played once since then and it remains to be seen whether he will return in some capacity in the upcoming transfer window.
Sterling’s switch to the Gunners raised eyebrows last year and he is set to go back to Chelsea. The 30-year-old, who has made 82 caps for England in the past, hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have wanted to under Arteta. He has found it hard to get into the team ahead of the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard and his parent club have a decision to make regarding what to do with him next.
Salah-Eddine Ouland M’Hand and Michal Rosiak are two youngsters who are currently due to cut ties with Arsenal on free transfers. M’Hand has been loaned out to FC Den Bosch and Hull City to get some experience, although he didn’t feature at all for the latter. Meanwhile, Rosiak hasn’t played for Arsenal’s senior team.
