Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea transfer update as shock Christopher Nkunku claim emerges

Chelsea secured an important victory over Premier League champions Liverpool in their ongoing push to secure European football for next season.

The hosts took full advantage of Liverpool's title hangover, with Enzo Fernandez scoring the opening goal in the third minute. Virgil van Dijk's calamitous piece of defending saw the Dutch defender clear the ball into teammate Jarrell Quansah for an untimely own goal.

It was the perfect afternoon for Enzo Maresca's men with Newcastle United dropping points at Brighton & Hove Albion earlier in the day. The west Londoners are now level on points with the Magpies ahead of their meeting at St James' Park next weekend.

Here, football.london has taken a look at the latest headlines from in and around Stamford Bridge;

Alejandro Garnacho 'decision'

The Daily Star reports that Chelsea are "ready" to renew interest in Alejandro Garnacho - after failing to secure a deal in January. Manchester United had been open to parting ways with the Argentine and are likely to consider bids this summer.

With a new goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker on their transfer wish-list, United need to raise funds before making any moves. They are hoping to profit from Marcus Rashford and Antony following their loan spells, and Garnacho is also reportedly up for sale.

However, the report suggests that United will demand "at least £65 million" for the 20-year-old.

football.london says: "This wouldn't be surprising at all, as Chelsea have a clear preference for targeting younger talent. At just 20, the Argentine has already displayed moments of brilliance at Old Trafford and his pace, flair, and technical ability, makes him a strong fit to strengthen Chelsea's attacking options.

"He could play a key role in a youthful, more aggressive rebuild that fits Chelsea's current longer-term strategy. However, the club must be mindful of Manchester United's reported asking price, especially in light of ongoing Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns. If Chelsea can offload surplus attackers, and negotiate a fee below the £65m mark, Garnacho could prove to be a smart, longer-term investment."

Arsenal 'target' Chelsea transfer

French publication RMC Sport reports Arsenal see Christopher Nkunku as a player who could make a significant impact on Mikel Arteta's squad, if they sign him. Bayern Munich are also expected to re-enter negotiations after showing initial interest in him earlier this year.

Last week, May 3, 2025 " target="_self" rel="nofollow">Sky Sports Germany reported that the France international has decided to leave Stamford Bridge this summer due to a lack of regular playing time. Discussions are said to be ongoing.

football.london says: "While it's increasingly likely that Nkunku could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Chelsea must consider the risks of selling him to a title rival like Arsenal. Strengthening a direct competitor would only give them an added advantage in the race for silverware.

"Despite an injury-hit season, Nkunku remains one of Europe's top attacking talents, and letting him join a top-four rival would send out the wrong message; to fans, the dressing room, and future signings. While a sale might ease concerns around Profit and Sustainability Rules, offloading him to Arsenal for short-term financial relief could prove far more damaging in the long term as Chelsea aim to re-establish themselves as title contenders."
