Manchester United and Tottenham could meet for the fourth time this season in the Europa League final
Tottenham’s final Premier League fixture before a potential Europa League final against Manchester United has been brought forward two days after a request from Spurs officials.
Their clash with Aston Villa will now take place at 7:30pm on the night of Friday, May 16, having initially been scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, May 18.
United take on Chelsea on the same evening and their match has been pushed back to an 8:15pm kick-off from an initial 8pm start time with both matches being broadcast by Sky Sports.
With Manchester United and Tottenham on course to meet in the Europa League final on Wednesday, May 21, after resounding victories in the first leg of their semi-final ties, their was anger in North London at the lack of preparation time being afforded Ange Postecoglou’s side, as well as the fact that United were set to get two days extra to get ready for the final in Bilbao.
Spurs confirmed on Sunday, April 27 that they had requested for the fixture to be moved, saying in a statement: "We should like to inform supporters that we are in discussions with the Premier League regarding a change in date to our away Premier League match against Aston Villa, currently scheduled for Sunday, 18 May."
It was reported that Villa had objected to the proposal to move the game, with Unai Emery's side still in a battle for a spot in next season's Champions League and keen to keep disruption to their schedule to a minimum.
But while Villa were reluctant for the game to be moved, the Premier League have now granted the request and both United and Tottenham will get the same time to prepare for the final, should they get there. Ruben Amorim's side face Chelsea on Friday, May 16.
United won 3-0 against Athletic Club in Bilbao last week and will look to finish the job at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Tottenham beat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg and face a tougher test in holding on to their advantage in the return in the Arctic Circle this week.
