Ousmane Dembele injury latest as PSG star gives update ahead of Arsenal Champions League clash

PSG defender Achraf Hakimi says Ousmane Dembele has recovered well amid injury concerns leading up the Champions League semi-final second leg clash with Arsenal at the Parc des Princes this week.

The french forward scored the only goal of the game at the Emirates last week, to give Luis Enrique's side a slender lead to take back to Paris.

Dembele has been the standout performer for the Ligue 1 champions, with 33 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

However, the French international was a doubt for the reverse fixture on home soil after picking up a hamstring injury in the win over Arsenal.

It meant the 27-year-old missed PSG's defeat to Strasbourg at the weekend but could be in contention having returned to training this week.

PSG boss Enrique said: "He’s been training with the group for two days. I have him at my disposal tomorrow.”

Hakimi was hopeful that PSG would be able to call upon their star man on Wednesday night, but also gave a glowing appraisal of his other teammates who could step into the void.

"He has recovered well," Hakimi told reporters at the press conference this afternoon. "I was able to speak with him, he feels good.

"The coach will make the decision. If he is not there, someone else will be. He is a very important player, but he helps us on and off the pitch.

"The goal of the sporting director, the president, and the coach is to build a team more than to attract stars. That's the key; the collective is more important.

"Together, we are stronger. In this kind of match, we know that if Dembélé isn't there, another player will take his place and give 100% for the team."

PSG had given an update on Dembele and his team-mate Presnel Kimpembe in a statement toward the end of last week. "Victim of bone edema in the 2nd metatarsal of his right foot, Presnel Kimpembe will remain at rest for the next few weeks," it read.

"Ousmane Dembele has strained his right hamstring. His condition is progressing well. A further assessment will be carried out shortly."
