The former Premier League star is in search for a new club at 36 years old after Bristol Rovers were relegated to League Two.
The Gas were relegated to League Two at the end of the 2024/25 season having finished 22nd in the third tier. It’s been a topsy turvy season for Bristol Rovers, who sacked head coach Inigo Calderon following their relegation.
Calderon was only appointed on Boxing Day but lost nine of his last 10 matches at the end of the season. Sinclair has been at Bristol Rovers since 2022 and made 115 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.
Bristol Rovers make ex QPR and Charlton Athletic loanee a free agent
Sinclair regularly captained the side this season but struggled for a place in the starting XI over that dire run of form to finish the campaign. The 36-year-old is a former Premier League star, having played 119 times in the top flight.
The majority of those matches came with Swansea City and Aston Villa but Sinclair, who is a product of the Bristol Rovers youth academy, spent five years at Stamford Bridge. His Blues debut came against Wycombe Wanderers in the 2007 League Cup semi-final but he would only go on to make 14 appearances for Chelsea.
Sinclair’s only goal for the club came against Hull City in the third round of the League Cup in 2007. The winger was sent on loan to Plymouth Argyle, QPR, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic while under contract at Stamford Bridge.
The forward made just three appearances for the Addicks and nine for QPR during that early stage of his career. His loan to Charlton Athletic was terminated after just a month but QPR reportedly beat competition from eight other Championship clubs to sign Sinclair on loan in 2007.
Sinclair was at his most prolific while playing for Swansea City between 2010 and 2012, with 36 goals in 91 appearances. He won the Championship play-offs with the Welsh outfit in 2011 and also picked up silverware while at Celtic - winning the Scottish Premiership in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Scott Sinclair reflects on Chelsea experience
In 2011, the forward sent a warning message to fellow youngsters at Chelsea, suggesting they may be better off leaving Stamford Bridge for their development. He told The Mail: “Would I have got a chance at Chelsea under Villas-Boas? It depends what you mean by chance.
“To me, 10 minutes here and there is not a chance. A chance is playing week in, week out. Sturridge has done well, I’m hoping he gets his chance. I’m hoping he gets more games, not just 10 minutes off the bench.
“They’ve got some great quality youngsters there in Sturridge, Josh McEachran and Ryan Bertrand. But it’s very difficult for them to get in ahead of big international players. I came to Swansea to get week in, week out football because they couldn’t give me it, but I learnt a helluva lot off the big boys at Chelsea and that has helped me establish myself at Swansea.”
