Wolves have the chance to add more firepower to their ranks this summer
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has made a positive impression since taking over. He was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil when they were struggling near the bottom of the Premier League table. However, he has since pulled them away from the danger zone with relative ease in the end.
Pereira has the chance to bring in some new signings when the transfer window opens for business. He also has the opportunity to let some players leave should he wish to. The Midlands outfit have three more fixtures left to play before the end of the season.
Wolves eye ambitious transfer deal for Nicolas Pepe
Wolves are weighing up a possible swoop for Villarreal winger Nicolas Pepe this summer, according to FootMercato. The former Arsenal man, who the Gunners once paid £72million for, is now being linked with a return to England in the next window. He has caught the eye in La Liga over recent times.
Pepe, 29, could be seen by Pereira as someone to boost his attacking department. If he joined, he would provide more competition and depth on the wing. He has played just under 400 games in his career to date now and is a more experienced player than he was during his days at the Emirates Stadium.
The Ivory Coast international joined the Gunners in 2019 from Lille but struggled to make an impact in London. He scored 27 goals in 112 outings and was also loaned out to Nice to get some game time. Trabzonspor then snapped him up permanently in 2023 and he spent a year in Turkey before Villarreal came calling just over 12 months ago. His switch to Spain has worked out well for him and he has boosted his reputation again.
Wolves reaction to latest Premier League clash
Wolves lost 1-0 away at Manchester City in their last league outing. They weren’t able to find an equaliser against Pep Guardiola’s men and slumped to a loss. Kevin de Bruyne scored their opponents’ winner in the first half.
Speaking afterwards, Pereira said: “I'm not happy with the result, but today I saw everything that the team needs to show. Quality, tactical quality, confidence to play, technical quality, the moments that Manchester City pushed us to defend, OK we defended, suffering together, team spirit, everything, everything.
“He [Bellegarde] is a very good boy, and sometimes it's better to think about ourselves. The pass was too strong, but the intention, and I like to see this in my team, is if another player is in a better position, I will try to assist. But in the end, I'm very happy, very proud of my team, very proud of my players, very proud of our supporters. The result was not the result that we wanted. If I asked before the game to put the post out, we score at least two goals.”
He added: “I said to my team before the game that we can lose the game, but we cannot lose our identity, cannot lose our spirit, we cannot lose our ambition, and we must show this ambition, these qualities on the pitch.”
