Arsenal ready to reignite Watkins interest

Arsenal are once again being linked with a move for Aston Villa striker Oliie Watkins.

They submitted a bid for the 29 year old in the January window, but that was rejected and he chose to stay at Villa.

However, since then, he has had a falling out with manager Unai Emery after he was only a substitute for both of their Champions League quarter-finals against PSG.

And that has led to speculation that the player, who is now Villa’s top scorer in Premier League history wants to leave the club, especially as Villa are likely to bring in their own reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Watkins is also a boyhood Arsenal fan.

Despite this his age, and questions about whether he is really top drawer, are likely to leave Arsenal fans underwhelmed if he proves to be the club’s solution to their long quest for an elite striker.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
