Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin could be heading for the Premier League this summer, with Fichajes reporting that Aston Villa have shown serious interest in securing his services.
The Ukrainian international enjoyed his most involved season during the 2023/24 campaign, but ever since Thibaut Courtois’ return, his future has been called into question.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side, who have emerged as one of the Premier League’s most progressive outfits, are reportedly preparing for the possible departure of World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The Argentine has long attracted interest from top clubs across Europe and has also been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
While his exit is not imminent, Villa’s sporting director is preparing for all outcomes, and Lunin appears to be a key part of the club’s contingency planning.
Aston Villa keen on Lunin
From Aston Villa’s perspective, Lunin presents a valuable opportunity. At 26 years old, he is entering his prime years and is eager to take on a leading role, something he has not consistently enjoyed at Real Madrid.

The Premier League would offer him the competitive platform he craves, and Villa’s current trajectory could make them an appealing destination for a goalkeeper with European ambitions.
Back in Madrid, the situation is less favourable for Lunin. With Courtois fully recovered and expected to reclaim the starting role, and with the club targeting Espanyol’s Joan Garcia to add further depth, Lunin is once again at risk of falling down the pecking order.
Despite his impressive performances when called upon this past season, the writing may be on the wall regarding his long-term role at the club.
For Lunin, a move to Aston Villa could represent the turning point in his career, trading the glamour of Real Madrid’s bench for the chance to become a central figure in one of England’s most ambitious squads.
Real Madrid may not stand in Lunin’s way should a suitable offer arrive, especially if Courtois remains fit and the club secure the signing of a young backup.
As it stands, Aston Villa are a serious contender, and the summer transfer window may well mark the beginning of a new chapter for the Ukrainian shot-stopper.
