Arsenal face decision over Sagoe Jr’s future

With the season drawing to a close decisions will have to be made regarding the futures of many of the club’s young prospects.

One player who falls into that category is Charles Sagoe Jr, with the winger having finished the season playing for Arsenal’s U21 side.

Sagoe Jr spent the first half of the season on loan at Shrewsbury Town but didn’t feature as prominently as he would have liked, although he still gained some experience of senior football.

A loan spell with Swansea City during the previous campaign proved frustrating and Arsenal now face a somewhat difficult decision over what the next steps should be for the 20-year-old.

Sagoe Jr signed a new contract with Arsenal last year prior to going out on loan and he demonstrated for the U21s against Manchester City last weekend that he can still pose a major threat with his trickery and direct runs.

Like many players in the youth setup there is a feeling that Sagoe Jr is more suited to Arsenal’s style than that of many loan clubs but it remains to be seen if he will get further first-team opportunities.

Last season Sagoe Jr made his competitive senior debut for Arsenal as he started against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Earlier this campaign he travelled with the first-team to Dubai but Ismeal Kabia now appears to have moved ahead of him in the pecking order.

Sagoe Jr has a lot of ability but Arsenal must soon decide where his future lies. A successful loan next season, for instance, could be hugely beneficial for his overall development.
