Alejandro Garnacho makes transfer declaration as Chelsea learn Man Utd stance

Following Chelsea's transfer interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho during the most recent January window, the player has freshly spoken about his situation.

Garnacho, 20, was subject to intense speculation over the winter months immediately after Ruben Amorim took charge at Man United.

football.london reported Chelsea to be leading the race having expressed their admiration at the time, meanwhile Serie A leaders Napoli saw their own offer of around £40 million turned down according to our sister site, the Manchester Evening News.

The Argentine has since gone on to stay at Old Trafford, return to prominent role under his new boss and tally up 54 appearances in all competitions this term.

Now Garnacho has admitted that he is 'happy' in his first-ever press conference with the English media.

"As a footballer, you are always going to listen and hear some rumours about the future. But I have a contract here until 2028 so I’m happy here," he said.

Behind January rumours was a period of struggle adapting to Amorim's demands and change of tactics.

On December 15 last year, he was even dropped from Man United's squad entirely for their Manchester derby visit to rivals City.

"I think it’s difficult for everyone when, in the middle of the season, a new manager comes in and we change the formation," Garnancho explained. "But we just need to follow the rules and I try to improve every day.

"Obviously, the manager knows the characteristics of the players. You see the games, too many times I play, for example, wide on the wing and the wing back is coming inside.

"What we try to do depends on the players we have and we are improving as a team also.

"It’s a little bit hard but it’s just the mentality. My first two months, November and December were very difficult for me but my mentality is to keep working, to keep trying and show to the manager and staff I have to play."

Sitting alongside him, Amorim suggested that he is a player United will seek to keep hold of once the summer window opens.

"It’s normal a lot of clubs want a player like Bruno [Fernandes], like Garnacho, but we want to keep the best players and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world. Our idea didn’t change, we want Bruno here," the head coach stated.

This comes in answer to reports around Saudi Arabian interest in Fernandes plus another suggestion that Chelsea could renew their interest in Garnacho at the next available opportunity.
