Arsenal could be set to receive a small transfer windfall after the potential exit of Jorginho. The Italian midfielder is reportedly in talks with a move to Flamengo upon the expiry of his contract.
Jorginho, who signed for the Gunners in January 2023, is set to leave the club on June 30 when his current deal at the Emirates Stadium runs out .
Mikel Arteta is expected to look at signing a new midfielder in the summer with Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi a strong candidate. Reports have suggested that the north Londoners are in advanced talks to sign the Spain international.
Flamengo are said to be keen to bring the Italy international to Brazil in the summer having made an enquiry in December. The Daily Mail have claimed they are closing in on a deal early to allow him to be permitted to play in the Club World Cup.
The Brazilian side are in a group alongside Jorginho's former team, Chelsea, as well as ES Tunis and Leon. However, it would mean that they would have to pay a fee to sign him in time for the post-season tournament.
FIFA has implemented a two-window summer to benefit the clubs participating in the tournament. The first runs from June 1 to June 10 and the second opening six days later.
Any agreement for Jorginho to move to Flamengo could lead to Arsenal receiving a small fee. It's a similar situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is leaving Liverpool, amid his imminent move to Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have reportedly approached Liverpool to bring the defender to the club before the end of June to ensure he is available for the Club World Cup. football.london's sister title, Liverpool Echo, has reported how an early exchange could see the Reds receive a small fee.
"This club has been my whole life - my whole world - for 20 years," Alexander-Arnold wrote on social media on Monday. "From the academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all.
"But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.
"I've given my all every single day I've been at this club, and I hope you feel like I've given back to you during my time here."
In an interview with Liverpool's website, he added: "I completely understand that the news will disappoint a lot of people, will anger people, it will make them upset.
"Obviously that went into the decision as well - it's something you don't want to do, you don't want to ever have these moments where you feel like you're letting a lot of people down, you're disappointing a lot of people.
"But I've had to make a decision for me, it's as simple as that. It's a difficult one, it's one that has played on my mind for a long time but being able now to get it off my chest will feel like a weight is lifted."
