Ireland international Megan Campbell has entered the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday - thanks to her incredible long-throw.
With that particular set-piece in the news, thanks to Arsenal star Thomas Partey’s efforts during Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to PSG, Campbell took to the London City Lionesses training pitch on Thursday morning.
And in front of Guinness World Record adjudicators, she launched long throw after throw, before nailing a record-breaking distance of 37.55 metres (123-foot, two inches).
The Drogheda native is famed for her ability to launch rockets deep into the penalty area, which sometimes lead to frightened opposition defenders putting the ball out for a corner, rather than a throw-in.
The height, speed and trajectory of her throws can make for far more dangerous set-piece deliveries, and they often lead to chaos in the opposing penalty area.
Campbell, a former Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton full-back, is returning next season to the Women’s Super League.
London City Lionesses finished top of the Championship thanks to last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City.
Campbell reacted to her achievement by posting on social media, ‘A Guinness World Record holder… Crazy”
And fans were quick to react to the record by comparing her efforts to Partey’s at the Parc des Princes - and to suggest, tongue-in-cheek, that she had become a top Mikel Arteta transfer target.
The tactic raised eyebrows around the football world, as Partey's efforts to launch long throws deep into the PSG box saw him fail to get anywhere near the kind of distance that has made Campbell a world record breaker.
