Arsenal have set up a fresh meeting with the representatives of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha as they weigh up a stunning hijack, according to reports. Manchester United are believed to be in advanced talks to sign the Brazilian forward this summer and are ready to trigger his £63million release clause.
The Athletic claim that United have tabled an offer of personal terms, but there is work to be done before Cunha accepts the proposal. And while European football isn't confirmed to be on offer at Old Trafford next season, there is reportedly interest from rival suitors who could offer that incentive.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle United remain in the race to sign Cunha, but Arsenal are also major players in the frame.
The Gunners are said to have held fresh discussions among club chiefs over making a concrete move to sign Cunha.
And it's claimed that sporting director Andrea Berta has gone as far as to schedule a new meeting with the 25-year-old's camp to snatch him from United's grasp.
However, the report adds that United are considered the favourites for Cunha's signature, with contract negotiations set to continue in the coming days.
The Wolves talisman reportedly wants to decide his next club before the end of the season and has already agreed to the sporting project helmed by Ruben Amorim and INEOS.
While United's involvement in Europe next season isn't expected to be a factor, the club will likely want to understand their summer budget before striking any deals.
But Cunha has emerged as the Red Devils' top target, and Amorim could use up most of his funds before player sales to upgrade his attack.
The Portuguese boss reportedly also wants to add a new striker to his ranks, with Ipswich Town's Liam Delap said to be his preferred option.
Delap is available for just £30m after the Tractor Boys' relegation from the Premier League, but he is the subject of mass interest.
United will want to bolster areas but may rely on offloading multiple players to back Amorim further, especially if they miss out on Champions League football.
The M16 giants can only qualify for Europe's elite competition by winning the Europa League final on May 21, which would be worth a minimum of £60m.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are among the high-earning players widely expected to leave this summer permanently.
But United will reportedly listen to offers for most senior players, including Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.
