Report: Arsenal make offer to sign ‘one-man battering ram’, Berta wants him and Gyokeres

Arsenal have made an offer to Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap’s representatives ahead of the summer transfer window, journalist Tom Weber has claimed.

The Gunners have reportedly stepped up their interest in the 'phenomenal' English starlet, who has no shortage of suitors in the Premier League amid his impressive year at Portman Road.

Arsenal are believed to have reached out to Delap’s agents and outlined how they plan to use him in Mikel Arteta’s system as they look to reinforce their number nine options after the season.

With Viktor Gyokeres remaining one of their primary targets, the North London club have reportedly told Delap he would have to fight for his place and likely start out as second choice should another experienced striker be signed.

According to Weber, Arsenal are looking to sign a younger and cheaper supporting striker alongside someone like Gyokeres and have identified Delap, praised as a 'one-man battering ram', as a promising option.

Their newly-appointed sporting director Andrea Berta has been particularly impressed with Delap’s performances in the Premier League and believes he would be an ideal understudy to Gyokeres.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to pay Delap’s £30m release clause and match his salary demands, which are believed to be around £150,000 per week.

Arsenal are set to finish second in the Premier League for a third year running, although they could slip to seventh if they fail to secure enough points in their final three games.

Arteta’s side are facing champions Liverpool away on Sunday, before taking on Newcastle at home and Southampton away to conclude their top-flight campaign.
