We look ahead to Sunday’s Premier League game at Anfield with our Liverpool vs Arsenal prediction and preview. Can the champions get back into their groove?
Liverpool vs Arsenal Stats: The Key Insights
Liverpool are tipped to get back to winning ways on Sunday, winning 46.6% of the Opta supercomputer’s pre-match simulations.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last 14 home games against Arsenal in all competitions (W7 D7).
Arsenal have dropped 21 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season.
At the midway point in the Premier League season, it looked like this match between Liverpool and Arsenal could be a title decider, but things didn’t quite go to plan for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Reds wrapped up the title race with four matches to spare, with a whopping 15 points currently separating them from Arsenal, who have seen their season falter in recent weeks.
Their Champions League run came to an end on Wednesday, as Paris Saint-Germain finished off a 3-1 aggregate win over them at the Parc des Princes. It was their fourth consecutive exit at that stage in major cup competitions.
Sandwiched between the two legs of that tie was a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League, where Arsenal gave up their lead in the second half.
They have now dropped 21 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, their joint-most in a single campaign (also 2019-20).
However, Arsenal don’t back down when facing the Premier League champions in a season with the title already confirmed, previously drawing 1-1 with Manchester United in 2012-13 and beating Liverpool 2-1 in 2019-20.
They also haven’t lost back-to-back league games since December 2023, something Arteta will be hoping they can continue as he attempts to get his side back on track to end the season on a high note.
He has problems to fix in order to do that, though. 39% of Arsenal’s goals conceded in the Premier League this season have come from set-piece situations (12/31, excluding penalties) the highest share of any side.
Arsenal Premier League set-play xGA
Liverpool’s only goal in their 3-1 loss to Chelsea last weekend came from a corner, as Virgil van Dijk thumped home what turned out to be a consolation goal in their first match since clinching the title.
Only two teams have lost both of their next two Premier League games in a season after already confirming the title – Arsenal in 1997-98 and Chelsea in 2005-06.
Arne Slot won’t want to let them relax despite their league triumph. And, in a boost for the Reds, they are back on home soil on Sunday, where they have lost just once all season – a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest back in September.
Liverpool have earned 44 points at Anfield in the Premier League this term, winning 14 of their 17 matches there so far.
They also have Mohamed Salah, who has proven a thorn in Arsenal’s side. He has scored 11 Premier League goals against them, only netting more against Man Utd (13) and Tottenham (12).
Mohamed Salah Premier League goal involvements 2024-25
He has been involved in 46 goals so far this season. If he does score or assist against the Gunners, he will equal Andrew Cole’s (1993-94) and Alan Shearer’s (1994-95) joint record for the most goal involvements in a single season.
Liverpool vs Arsenal Head-to-Head
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 14 home games against Arsenal in all competitions (W7 D7) since a 2-0 loss in the Premier League in September 2012.
However, Arsenal are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games against Liverpool (W2 D3), including a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture.
It is the Gunners’ longest run without defeat against Liverpool, since October 2007 and April 2011 (a run of eight).
