Chelsea booked their place in the UEFA Conference League final on Thursday night with a 5-1 aggregate victory over Djurgarden.

The West London club have a superb record in European finals, and they will be the firm favourites when they take on Spanish side Real Betis later this month.

The match at Wrocław Stadium in Poland - which will be live on TNT Sports and [discovery+](https://get.discoveryplus.com/gb/watch-tnt-sports-on-discoveryplus?utm_campaign=UK-TNT-D1-TNT-C7-TNT-BAU-DR-W-Football-EuropaLeague-250101-NA&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tntsports.co.uk&utm_content=story-content-text-subscribe&vid=ek6wqcapb6fkc5rh&cid=0ee1b05714eadfd3193bf34fbc4e5980&c=%7B%22875074%22%3A%221089459%22%2C%221086912%22%3A%221348017%22%2C%221310352%22%3A%220%22%7D) - will cap an eventful campaign on the continent for Chelsea.

They now have the chance to become the first side to win all three existing major UEFA club competitions.

With that in mind, we thought the time was right to look back at their previous appearances in European finals and see how they got on.

1971: First taste of European glory

-----------------------------------

Chelsea fired their first warning shot on the European stage when they won the 1971 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

They sealed their first European trophy in style, beating Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The first final in Athens ended 1-1, with Chelsea winning 2-1 in the replay two days later. John Dempsey and Peter Osgood scored Chelsea's goals.

1998: Two wins from two for Blues

---------------------------------

Chelsea's fantastic start to life in continental competitions continued in 1998 when they made it two wins from two in European finals.

Gianfranco Zola's goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Stuttgart in the final of the 1997–98 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in Stockholm.

That triumph saw them qualify for the 1998 UEFA Super Cup, where they beat UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid 1-0.

2008: Heartbreak in Moscow

--------------------------

Chelsea would have to wait another ten years for their next appearance in a European final.

The Roman Abramovich-backed Blues reached the 2008 UEFA Champions League final, but things did not go to plan in Moscow.

The game went to penalties after a 1-1 draw, but Manchester United came out on top after John Terry's iconic slip in the rain and Nicolas Anelka's miss.

2012: Chelsea reach the pinnacle

--------------------------------

Chelsea enjoyed their finest hour four years later when they lifted their first UEFA Champions League crown.

Roberto di Matteo's team defied the odds and upset a strong Bayern Munich side with a 4-3 win on penalties in Munich, after Didier Drogba equalised with a brilliant header in a 1-1 draw.

However, on this occasion, they were beaten 4-1 by Atletico Madrid in the 2012 UEFA Super Cup.

2013: Back-to-back European trophies

------------------------------------

The Blues were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the group stage during the 2012-13 campaign, but they responded in style.

They reached the final of the UEFA Europa League, where they defeated Benfica 2-1 in Amsterdam to secure back-to-back European trophies.

The victory saw them enter the UEFA Super Cup, where they were beaten on penalties by Bayern Munich.

2019: Two-time Europa League winners

------------------------------------

Chelsea maintained their superb record in European finals with a second UEFA Europa League triumph in 2019.

And they defeated Premier League rivals Arsenal 4-1 in the final in Baku to secure the crown.

However, they were beaten on penalties by UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup that same year.

2021: Return to the top

-----------------------

Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 to return to the top of European football in 2021.

Many expected Pep Guardiola's side to come out on top, but Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game in Porto to hand Chelsea their second UEFA Champions League win.

In total, that leaves Chelsea with six wins from seven European finals.
