First two Chelsea exits announced

As Chelsea head into their final two games of the season, the first departures from the squad have been confirmed. Chelsea legend Sophie Ingle and goalkeeper Zećira Mušović will leave the club upon expiration of their contracts. Mušović was offered a new deal but has chosen to continue her career elsewhere.

In 2012, Ingle joined Chelsea for the first time and returned in 2018 after spells with Bristol Academy and Liverpool. “Chelsea is a special club and since I returned seven years ago, I have felt the support of everyone, both on and off the pitch. I’m very proud to have lifted 11 trophies here and am grateful to have done that alongside team-mates who are like family to me,” Ingle said.

The Wales international suffered an ACL injury during the pre-season match against Feyenoord. Chelsea confirmed she will remain under contract while she is completing her rehabilitation.

“We would like to thank Sophie for her invaluable service throughout her time with Chelsea and wish her every success for her future playing career,” Chelsea stated.

The goalkeeper spent four-and-a-half years with the Blues and announced her pregnancy in February. Although, the club offered her a contract extension, she has decided to move on. “We have created many memories together and I have grown so much as a person during my time at Chelsea. It’s why it’s difficult to leave, but also why I feel confident to begin something new,” Mušović said.
