Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta wants to push to sign Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres, according to The Telegraph.
It has been another “nearly” season for Arsenal, who look set to finish second in the Premier League for a third consecutive campaign. Having been eliminated from both domestic cups, any hope of silverware came through the Champions League, but a 3-0 defeat across two legs to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals has ensured that the Gunners will not lift a trophy this term.
Mikel Arteta has done brilliantly in his tenure at Arsenal, but will surely be annoyed by the fact he has not won a major trophy since the 2019 FA Cup. Much has been said of the Gunners this season, either for their pursuit of silverware or their lack of options up front.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz both showed shaky form in the first half of the season before suffering long-term injuries. In Havertz’s case, many still wonder whether he is best suited to playing as a striker or not. In their absence, Arsenal have been forced to use players such as Mikel Merino, a central midfielder, as makeshift strikers.
It is no secret that Arsenal want to sign a striker in the summer and under the guidance of Andrea Berta, their new sporting director formerly of Atletico Madrid, it may be that they have finally settled on a target.

Viktor Gyokeres’ Goal Celebration Explained
According to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Berta is in favour of moving for Viktor Gyokeres over other targets, such as Alexander Isak. With Newcastle, Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world. As a Premier League player, however, Isak would cost a staggering amount if Newcastle were to part ways with him.
As such, Gyokeres, who earns £63,000 a week as per Capology, has emerged as an ideal option, one who would not cost an eye-watering amount of money, relative to the modern game. The Swede enjoyed a stellar debut season in Portugal after joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has only continued that form in his second campaign.

Berta was, as per The Telegraph, interested in bringing Gyokeres to Atletico when he worked in the Spanish capital. It is understandable as to why this interest has remained in North London, given the obvious quality that Gyokeres has as a striker, both technically and physically.
Arsenal will surely qualify for the Champions League next season, which will be a massive boost for the Gunners in their pursuit of Gyokeres. Not only would he continue to play in Europe’s most-elite competition at the Emirates, but he could perhaps be the last piece that Arsenal need to finally win some silverware again.
