Arsenal reach Zubimendi and Gyokeres 'agreement' as Arteta wish granted

Arsenal appear to already be looking towards next season following their Champions League exit with key agreements reached on two long-term transfer targets.

The Gunners saw their hopes of a major trophy vanish on Wednesday evening in the Parc Des Princes following a 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain across two semi-final games. Mikel Arteta's side have sat second in the Premier League table for the majority of the campaign, but even that is now in jeopardy.

With focus firmly on their European adventures, Arsenal have picked up just six points from their last five games all while Manchester City are on four-game winning streak. The two sides could actually be on the same number of points come Sunday evening with City facing already relegated Southampton and Arsenal taking on champions Liverpool.

The Gunners then host Newcastle before ending the season at St Mary's Stadium. Arteta will undoubtedly want to pick up maximum points but the transfer window is likely on his mind with his feelings made clear on the upcoming trading period.

When asked if he was excited about the summer transfer window, Arteta said: "Very much, yeah. Already with the players that we have and having everybody fit and available, we are a super strong team.

"What we've done in the Champions League semi-final, we haven't done in 20 years in this football club with the actual players that we have right now. Very, very positive about it."

Judging by the latest set of updates, Andrea Berta is actively working on deals. Martin Zubimendi has been heavily linked to the Gunners over the last few months with a verbal agreement now in place for the player to join.

Football.london understands there has been confidence from Arsenal that they would get Zubimendi in, so much so work has been put in on other deals as his arrival was expected.

The top end of the pitch is one area where significant groundwork has been completed. Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have all been strongly linked but the latter looks to be the favoured signing with claims in Portugal going as far as saying a bid is on the table.

As revealed on the front page of Saturday's of Correio da Manha, the Gunners have now submitted their first official offer which is said to be worth £63.4million (€75m) for Gyokeres with an agreement over personal terms already reached.

Plenty has been said about the Swede's asking price, that is roughly what Arsenal will have to pay for his services with it having also claimed he has and Sporting have an agreement which allows him to depart for a set fee. The moves would be music to the ears of Arteta going into a huge summer.
