Derrick Carr Retires From Saints
May 10th, 2025
After two seasons with the Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield is among the elite in the quarterback world.
After two seasons in New Orleans, quarterback Derek Carr has retired.
His ailing right shoulder took him down.
So it’s official. The Saints will have a preseason QB battle between second-year man Spencer Rattler (0-6 as a starter last year) and rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough out of Louisville. No, Joe’s not counting ancient and injured Taysom Hill.
Former Bucs QB Shaun King, an astute evaluator of his position, has said Shough was the No. 2 QB in last month’s draft. He’s an interesting big and versatile prospect who will turn 26 in September. Joe is not gassing up Shough, only giving background.
Bottom line: the Saints are a hot mess and look like a team happy to tank the 2025 season.
Not only does New Orleans have salary cap issues and a new head coach, they just drafted for the trenches and look primed to average 17 points a game on offense.
