According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Carr forgoes his $30 million of guaranteed salary this season by retiring. Additionally, the Saints will not seek reimbursement on the $10 million already given to Carr through signing bonus and roster bonus.
Carr, 34, has played 11 seasons in the NFL. He came into the league as a second-round choice in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Fresno State by the Oakland Raiders.
After nine seasons with the Raiders, Carr was released and signed by the New Orleans Saints. He has a 63-79 record as a starter, including 14-13 with New Orleans.

In his two years with the Saints, Carr had a 68.2% completion percentage and threw for 6,023 yards with 40 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He had six 300-yard outings, all during the 2023-24 season.
Carr dealt with several injuries during his time in New Orleans. He missed seven games last season, most of his career, with oblique and hand/wrist injuries. It was a hand/wrist injury suffered in Week 14 that sidelined him for what turned out to be the final four games of his career.
Most notable of Carr's injuries was a shoulder injury that was not disclosed until just before this year's draft. Carr was reportedly mulling over shoulder surgery that could sideline him for the entire year.
