New Orleans Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr made the shocking decision to retire at 34 on Saturday morning.
Here is what the Saints quarterback room now looks like after a lingering shoulder injury forced Carr into retirement.
New Saints draft pick Tyler Shough
Former Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough was the No. 40 overall pick for the Saints in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Standing at 6-foot-5, the play-caller had his best collegiate season in 2024 when he completed 244 of 389 passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick said Shough will surprise the NFL. Shough is 25.
"Tyler Shough is the one," Riddick said on ESPN's "Get Up" morning show. "This is the one to pay attention to. Look, his injury history, going back to Oregon and Texas Tech, are really freak injuries. He dives in the end zone, breaks his collarbone twice, he gets drop-tackled at Texas Tech and breaks his ankle. Those are the kind of things that are not indicative of someone being injury-prone; that's just called being at the wrong place at the wrong time. We played the game, we know how that goes. This cat can throw the rock, though. He's 6-4, 230-pounds and ran a 4.6 at the combine. That throw he made against Notre Dame? If that was Patrick Mahomes, we'd be sitting there running it on 'Get Up' over and over."
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler, a former South Carolina and Oklahoma QB, is entering his second season with the team. As a rookie, Rattler completed 130 of 228 attempts for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. The Saints were 0-7 in games he played in. Rattler enters the season as New Orleans' youngest quarterback at 24.
Jake Haener
Jake Haener is the final Saints quarterback on the roster. He's entering his third NFL season this fall. In 2024, he completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Saints were 0-4 in games where Haener completed a pass. Haener is 26.
