Sampson thinks it can be a good approach to have two fresh running backs.
"If we all go out here and handle business throughout training camp, and there's also some guys who've been here, so it's a competition all over," he said before practice. "But I think this is the blueprint of the league, the best way it works with running backs. It's a long season, so you want as many people as you can to go in there and split reps and do good for the team that keeps everybody fresh. You see it all across the league and I think we have an opportunity to do that here."
Sampson likes what he's seen of Judkins.
"I think he has a lot of explosive play ability, definitely a bigger back, but I see him able to catch the ball," Sampson said of Judkins. "He's definitely been in a scheme where he's ran those outside zone, inside zone plays. His vision is great. I think we compare in a lot of things, but it's also that balance to where that we could complement each other at the same time.
"Me and Quinshon, I could tell we'll have a good relationship and we kind of see eye to eye on a lot of things," Sampson said. "So glad to be in the backfield with him and the other guys that's there right now."
Last season, Judkins and Treveyon Henderson formed a dynamic duo in helping lead the Buckeyes to a national championship. Both backs went over 1,000 yards and were strong working together.
"I think going into that situation just as one of those great positions to be in where you have another guy in the room," Judkins said. "Where you both can contribute to the team and not be taxing on your legs and be able to be available at the same time and stay healthy at the same time, be able to produce."
