While news around the NFL world has been quiet since the hectic free agency period and league draft, an unexpected move had everyone talking on Saturday.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL.
After 11 seasons in the league, Carr has decided to hang it up, following an unexpected injury report on his shoulder that revealed he would miss the entirety of the 2025 season.
Upon the release of the news, former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who previously spent time with Carr, shared his response.
"Congratulations on a great career," Gruden said. "You showcased incredible mental toughness and preparation for over a decade. I love you and enjoyed our time. Keep shredding! @derekcarrqb."

He was also involved with the New Orleans Saints franchise during Carr's short stint with the NFC team. In 2023, Gruden served as a consultant for the Saints.
In 11 seasons in the NFL, Carr played nine years with the Las Vegas Raiders and two years with the New Orleans Saints.
He was originally drafted by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Last season with the Saints, Carr played just 10 games. In his final season in the NFL, Carr posted 15 touchdowns and 2,145 yards, completing 67.7% of his pass attempts.
