Rangers are reportedly eyeing up a £4m move for Basel midfielder Metinho – with the incoming owners keen to make him one of their first acquisitions.
The San Francisco 49ers-backed consortium are edging towards a deal and new signings may not be high on the list of priorities just yet with their next permanent manager the top item on the docket.
But work on improving the squad is already underway in the background and the Scottish Sun say they have their sights set on Brazilian playmaker Metinho.
Contracted to Troyes who are under the City Football Group umbrella, the 22-year-old is starring for Basel in the Swiss Super League and is expected to have interest this summer with clubs in the English Championship said to be keen.
But it's claimed Rangers see him as a potential key signing with the new owners keen to tie up a deal even before landing their manager.
As a teenager Metinho was viewed as one of Brazilian football's top prospects but he's struggled to deliver on that potential consistently during a nomadic career so far.

He came through the ranks at Fuminense and Troyes paid €5m (£4.2m) to sign him in 2021. He was signed with a view to climbing the City Group ladder with Manchester City holding a vested interest in his progress.
He's been out on loan in Belgium and the Netherlands but joined Basel in January and has impressed.
His availability is down to the fact he is about to enter the final six months on his deal at his parent club and Rangers could take advantage.
Metinho has made ten appearances for Basel and is a central figure for the Swiss league leaders.
