We're a week removed from the 2025 NFL Draft and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still in starting quarterback limbo.
Veteran free agent and betting favorite to be under center next season for Pittsburgh, Aaron Rodgers, is still playing the waiting game with the team, and there's no resolution in sight regarding a timeline for him to sign.
There were reports of a Plan B for the Steelers in New Orleans' Derek Carr. The Saints were rumored to be wanting to move on from Carr due to his contract, and Pittsburgh was one of the rumored landing spots.
But that's all out the window now as Carr announced his retirement on Saturday.
“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League,” said Carr. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”
Earlier reports indicated Carr would have surgery to repair the shoulder, which would have jeopardized his entire 2025 season, but he instead opted for retirement.
The 34-year-old Carr started 169 games for both the Raiders and Saints and ends his career with a 77-92 record. He'll finish his career with a 65.1 completion percentage with 41,245 yards, 257 touchdowns and 112 interceptions.
