SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Augustana baseball team saw its NSIC Tournament hopes fade on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to NSIC regular season and tournament champion No. 4 Minnesota State (49-6) at The Birdcage.
Sam Siegel, Jack Hines, J.D. Hennen and Ragan Pinnow earned All-Tournament team honors.
The Vikings (39-16), ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings, will now await the NCAA Selection show to learn their fate, airing at 9:30 p.m., on May 11 on [ncaa.com](http://ncaa.com)
**Game 1: Minnesota State 5, Augustana 4**
Carter Heinsch went 4 for 5 with a run scored while Jack Hines, Sam Siegel and Ragan Pinnow each had two hits and an RBI. The Vikings left 13 runners on base, including nine in scoring position.
Ethan Cole (4-5) gave it his all in the opener, striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs in a complete game effort on 145 pitches.
The Vikings scored first as Troy Berg walked, stole second and scored on a Siegel base hit. Pinnow followed with a double to put two in scoring position with no outs, but one run is all AU would get.
The Mavericks countered in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. Hines delivered in the top of the fourth, picking up a two-out RBI single to score Jake Lundquist and tie the game.
That was it for scoring until the bottom of the seventh when a solo blast put the Mavericks back in front 3-2. Two more runs in the eighth gave them a 5-2 lead. AU came back with a Joshua Koskie sac fly and Pinnow RBI single to get within a run, but the comeback fell short.
**Game 2: Minnesota State 18, Augustana 9**
Hines added two more hits and scored twice. Jason Axelberg scored three runs while Siegel added two hits and four RBI.
J.D. Hennen allowed two runs on one hit in 1 2/3 innings as the starter. Seven Vikings combined to throw the final 6 1/3 innings, led by two strikeouts in a scoreless eighth inning from Tom Sun.
The Vikings fell behind 6-0 early before a two-run single from Ragan Pinnow brought the Vikings within four at 6-2.
Trailing 7-2 in the sixth, Augustana marched back. Hines singled to lead off the frame and scored on an Axelberg triple. On the very next pitch, Siegel clubbed a two-run home run to bring the Vikings within 7-5.
The Mavericks countered with a 10-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The Vikings scored a run on a Siegel single in the seventh and then added three in the ninth with a Siegel walk, Berg sac fly and Nate Davis RBI single.
