Report: Bayer Leverkusen now interested in ‘special’ Manchester United loanee as Florian Wirtz windfall looms

Manchester United have big decisions to make in the summer transfer window and Jadon Sancho’s future will be a key talking point.

The end of the season is in sight and Manchester United could have an incredible end to the campaign.

United’s 4-1 win over Athletic Club on Thursday night sets up a Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ruben Amorim could guide United back into the Champions League despite a truly awful Premier League campaign.

United face West Ham United on Sunday, but the transfer window is looming large and speculation is already mounting.

Bayer Leverkusen target Jadon Sancho

United appear to be closing in on Matheus Cunha, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers ace viewed as a number 10 in Amorim’s system.

Departures will be crucial to further business, and United will hope to cash in on Jadon Sancho.

United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund back in 2021, securing the services of one of the finest young wingers in Europe.

Sadly, Sancho has not lived up to the billing and is currently on loan at Chelsea, who can sign him permanently.

Chelsea can send Sancho back to United for £5million, which may well happen given that he has recorded just three goals and four assists in 29 Premier League games for the Blues.

United would hope to find another suitor and The Mirror claim that Bayer Leverkusen are now interested in signing Sancho.

It’s suggested that Leverkusen may look to spend some of the expected Florian Wirtz windfall on Sancho in an attempt to add some more attacking quality.

Wirtz looks set to join Bayern Munich in a big-money move, and United are willing to take less than £20million just to get Sancho off the books.

Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Sancho once again, but Leverkusen appear ready to rival Niko Kovac’s side.

Bayer Leverkusen prepare for new manager

One situation to watch here surrounds Bayer Leverkusen’s managerial post.

Xabi Alonso has agreed to leave Leverkusen this summer, just a year after his incredible unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign.

Alonso will become the new Real Madrid boss according to Sky Sports, leaving Leverkusen to find a replacement.

Erik ten Hag has been linked with Leverkusen, but Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims Como’s Cesc Fabregas is the top target.

Fabregas praised Sancho just last year, branding the winger ‘special’ and ‘tremendous’.

Leverkusen may press ahead with a deal for Sancho regardless of their managerial situation, but playing for Fabregas may appeal more than reuniting with Ten Hag after their strained relationship at Old Trafford.
