Cole Palmer has sent a warning to his Chelsea teammates ahead of facing Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Chelsea star Cole Palmer has told his teammates they face being ‘eaten alive’ if they don’t show bravery against Newcastle United.
Newcastle and Chelsea sit fourth and fifth in the Premier League table, respectively, with only goals scored separating the two teams. Whoever wins will take a massive step towards qualifying for next season’s Champions League ahead of the final two games of the campaign.
The Magpies are notoriously strong at St James’ Park and the visit of teams like Chelsea only enhance the atmosphere. Ahead of the game, Palmer has sent a huge warning.
Cole Palmer comments on Newcastle United & St James’ Park atmosphere
The England international said: “Newcastle is a big game. We know what the stadium is like and we know they are in a Champions League spot as well. We know it will be a tough game but we’re going there to win. Hopefully we can do that.
“We need to go there and be brave. If you go there and you’re not brave, or you’re scared, they can eat you alive. We need to be on it.”
What Eddie Howe & Enzo Maresca have said about the game
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was asked if this was his side’s biggest game of the campaign and replied: “I think every game we'll have between now and the end of the season probably becomes our biggest game of the season.
“Maybe you could debate the cup final there with it but now that's gone and that's behind us, we know the importance of where we finish in the Premier League and we're doing everything we can to finish as high as we can.
“I think we've all said in this room, there's a possibility it will go to the last game. All we can do is take care of our next opponent and to try and give everything we can to win. It'll be a difficult game. I think Chelsea are a good team and we've played them twice already this season so we know their qualities. I think Stamford Bridge was one of our hardest games of the season.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said: “It’s a big one, it’s a huge on. Manchester United will be a big one. Nottingham Forest will be a big one. Each of them will be big games, and on Sunday, it’s the chance to start in the right way. We are on a good run, in a good mood, and hopefully we can play a good game and win.
“We are going to try to win the three games we have. How many points do we need to finish top five? No idea because it depends on the other results. We just need to be focused on ourselves and try to win the three games. That is the focus.”
