Arsenal to call up 15yo for first-team pre-season tour

Max Dowman is set to join the Arsenal first team on their pre-season tour of Asia this summer, and he was involved in senior training again this week.

Arsenal 15-year-old Max Dowman is one of the club’s brightest talents at the moment, and he may already have been involved with the first team if not for the fact he’s still too young.

Though Arsenal fans may recall Ethan Nwaneri making his senior debut at 15, Nwaneri was in the u16 age group – given he was set to turn 16 later that same season.

By contrast, Dowman only turned 15 during the current campaign. He’s still technically an u15 player and ineligible for senior football, despite playing no games for the u15s this season.

Even so, Dowman has regularly been involved in first-team training sessions, including most recently on Friday. Mikel Arteta is well aware of the midfielder’s quality, he just can’t call him up to the senior squad just yet.

Things will be different next season, and in anticipation of that change Isaan Khan reports for the Daily Mail that Dowman is expected to go on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia.

The intention is that Dowman would then be part of the senior squad in 2025/26, albeit probably just on the fringes at first.

Dowman has been in excellent recent form, scoring or assisting 15 goals in his last six games for the academy. Those appearances have largely been for the u18s, with the youngster captaining the team.

The midfielder also scored in every round he played of the FA Youth Cup this season, netting against QPR, then Fulham, then Manchester United. And he made his u21 debut in December.

Internationally, Dowman has made six appearances for the England u17s, scoring three goals and assisting two more as the team qualified for both the u17 Euros and the u17 World Cup.
