Arsenal likely to move for Chelsea star

Arsenal travel north on Sunday to face Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain at the semi-final stage on Wednesday night, ending their hopes of winning a trophy this term.

Mikel Arteta’s side are also set to finish as Premier League runners-up for the third consecutive campaign, much to the Spaniard’s frustration.

Those in charge of the club’s recruitment, including new sporting director Andrea Berta, are therefore likely to want to bolster Arteta’s squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

With that in mind, it appears that the North London side are interested in a player from one of their fiercest rivals.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are likely to be interested in Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku, who is set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

Nkunku, 27, joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 but was plagued by injuries during his debut season in England, making just 14 appearances across all competitions.

This season he has largely remained fit, but has found his playing time limited primarily to the domestic cup competitions and the Europa Conference League.

It is claimed that the Frenchman is therefore likely to depart Stamford Bridge this summer, and Arsenal are said to be interested in signing him.

The Gunners are set to be in the market for a new forward when the transfer window reopens this summer, with Arteta’s side having struggled in the absence of both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in recent months.

Arteta could therefore look to sign Nkunku, who has scored 17 times in 56 games for the Blues across all competitions including 14 goals this season.

The player himself is expected to push for a move away form Chelsea this summer, the report claims, having started just nine Premier League matches so far this term.
