As its country's flag carrier airline, Air France plays an important role in keeping its homeland connected. Whether this is done on a domestic or short-haul business with regional or narrowbody aircraft, or long-haul routes that make use of widebody jets, the airline is responsible for flying the French flag at airports all around the world. One of its most important long-haul markets is the United States.

Air France was recently in the news in the US after switching the aircraft of choice on its route from Paris to Phoenix from the Boeing 777 and 787 to the Airbus A350, as well as increasing the service frequency on the corridor from three to five times a week. This route only launched last May, but has seen strong demand, with the initially seasonal service soon switched to a year-round schedule. With this in mind, let's take a closer look at Air France's US operations as a whole this May.
Air France Has Almost 1,800 US Flights Scheduled In May 2025

According to scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Air France has penciled in a grand total of 1,774 flights on its routes to and from the United States of America in May 2025. Collectively speaking, these services will offer 536,810 seats and 2,349,773,220 available seat miles (ASMs). Compared to May 2024, flights are up by 11.6%, seats by 12.2%, and ASMs by 13.2%.
Air France's top aircraft type in terms of its US operations is the Airbus A350-900, which accounts for 793 (44.7%) of these flights. As far as the French flag carrier's other widebody twinjets are concerned, it is followed by the Boeing 777-300ER with 506 flights (28.5%), the Boeing 777-200ER with 284 flights (16%), and the Boeing 787-9 'Dreamliner' with 172 flights (9.7%). However, there is one strange exception.
Specifically, 19 of Air France's flights either to or from the US in May 2025 are scheduled to be operated by Airbus A320 narrowbodies. Naturally, you may be thinking that these would be an unlikely choice for flights across the North Atlantic Ocean from its French homeland. However, the route in question is not a transatlantic one, but, rather, a short-haul hop from Miami (MIA) to Point-a-Pitre (PTP) in the French Caribbean, with nine outbound and 10 inbound flights scheduled.

As far as Air France's widebody-operated US flights are concerned, the most popular route in terms of the number of scheduled flights and seats connects its main hub at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) with John F Kennedy International (JFK) in New York City. This has long been an important route for the French flag carrier, and it was frequently the domain of Concorde in the late 20th century.
This May, Air France has scheduled 169 flights in each direction between Paris CDG and New York JFK, amounting to 50,500 seats each way at an average capacity of 298.8 passengers. Every day of the month has at least five flights, with this figure rising to six on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. While most eastbound flights on the route depart on one day and land on the next, one is a same-day operation, as detailed in the table below. With that being said, it is still very much a red-eye.
Flight Number Departure from JFK Arrival at CDG Duration Aircraft Type Frequency
AF11 01:00 local time 14:15 local time Seven hours and 15 minutes Airbus A350-900 Daily
The Boeing 777-300ER is the most commonly operated aircraft on Air France's route between Paris CDG and New York JFK, and it accounts for 96 of the 169 round trips (56.8%) this month. It is followed by the Airbus A350-900 with 32 rotations (18.9%), the Boeing 787-9 with 31 rotations (18.3%), and the Boeing 777-200ER with 10 rotations (5.9%). Air France also flies to neighboring Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, operating daily services with the Airbus A350-900.

Far away from New York City, over on the West Coast of the United States, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in southern California is another key US gateway for Air France. The facility, commonly known even by non-avgeeks by its three-letter IATA code, is a useful destination on a strategic level for the French flag carrier, as it is a hub for fellow SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines. Here, Air France passengers can connect onto Delta's domestic services as part of a through booking.
CDG is one of three facilities from which Air France flies to Los Angeles International Airport , with daily frequencies of between two and four flights. This May, the French flag carrier has scheduled a grand total of 107 flights from Paris to the City of Angels, with 106 services flying eastbound back across the North Atlantic Ocean to the French capital during this time. Its aircraft are displayed below.

Elsewhere in France, the carrier has penciled in a single round trip to Los Angeles from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) this May using the Airbus A350-900. This rotation will depart Los Angeles for Nice on May 12th and return to California two weeks later on May 26th, with Aero News Global noting that these dates coincide with the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. Air France's third LAX route serves Papeete (PPT) in Tahiti, with the A350 operating 22 round trips in May.

Moving away from the hubs of New York JFK and Los Angeles International, Air France has three more US routes that it will be serving an average of twice a day or more during May 2025. All of these originate at its main hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, and they serve destinations in the south and east of the country. Of these, the most popular is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
As the main hub of Air France's SkyTeam partner Delta, this facility has even more strategic significance as far as connecting itineraries from Paris to regional destinations in the United States of America are concerned. The French flag carrier has scheduled 77 round trips (either two or three a day) on this route in May, using the 777-200ER (58), A350-900 (13), 787-9 (four), and the 777-300ER (two).
Meanwhile, two US destinations see twice-daily Air France services from Paris, namely Logan International (BOS) in Boston and Dulles International (IAD) in Washington DC. For Boston, all 62 flights in each direction this May will be operated by the Airbus A350-900, while Washington has a more diverse mix consisting of the 777-300ER (34), A350-900 (25), and the 777-200ER (three). Miami's total falls just short, with 61 round trips from CDG operated by Air France's A350s and 777s.

While far from as busy as its fellow Californian hub in Los Angeles as far as Air France flights are concerned, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the north of the Golden State is also a significant US destination for the French flag carrier. The airline has scheduled 51 flights and 15,112 seats in each direction on the route between here and Paris CDG this May, indicating consistently strong demand.
The backbone of this service is provided by the Boeing 777-300ER, with Air France deploying this aircraft type on a daily basis between Paris Charles de Gaulle and San Francisco International Airport in May 2025. According to aeroLOPA, this version of the 'triple-seven' has four configurations at Air France, with the ones serving San Francisco seating 296 passengers. This figure is split between four seats in first class, 58 in business, 28 in premium economy, and 206 in economy class.
First Class Business Class Premium Economy Economy Class Total
4 58 28 206 296
4 60 44 204 312
48 48 273 369
14 28 430 472
The full rundown of Air France's Boeing 777-300ER configurations can be seen in the table above. The huge range in overall capacity reflects the diverse nature of the type's route network at the French flag carrier, with the 472-seat high-density layout being preferred on leisure-heavy corridors. Meanwhile, those with La Première first class are deployed on more premium-heavy and business-focused routes. Air France's other 20 CDG-SFO flights this May are operated by the Airbus A350-900.

All of Air France's other US routes are served daily or less frequently. Of those that will see one flight a day in May, in addition to the aforementioned transatlantic corridor from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Newark Liberty International, the French flag carrier also flies daily from CDG to Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), and Detroit (DTW).
As far as less-than-daily routes are concerned, Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP) has 28 Air France flights from CDG this May, followed by Dallas/Fort Worth on 24, Phoenix (PHX) on 22, Denver (DEN) on 17, Seattle (SEA) on 13, and Orlando (MCO) on seven. With 1,891 US flights planned in June and 2,012 in July, Air France's American network is only going to get even bigger and better in the coming months.
