Rangers are waiting for the 49ers Enterprises to complete a takeover at Ibrox, while the managerial situation is also up in the air.

Since it was initially announced that the American investors were interested in buying the Gers, excitement has been high in Glasgow, looking ahead to a new era.

However, these things take time and as the end of the season draws closer, there is now uncertainty at Ibrox over what comes next.

Ferguson makes honest Rangers admission

While supporters may be keen to look ahead to the future at Ibrox, as it stands, the impending decisions in Glasgow have to be made by those currently in place.

The 49ers have started to make early moves with Kevin Thelwell set to join Ibrox upon the end of his Everton contract at the end of the season.

However, with players out of contract and decisions needing to be made, the lack of certainty over who will be in place is starting to take its toll.

While Barry Ferguson has been overseeing things as interim boss, it’s still unclear whether he has done enough to justify taking the Light Blues forward, or whether a replacement will be appointed.

Several members of the squad are also reaching the ends of their contracts, and are not being shy in expressing their confusion about what lies ahead.

Rangers have some decisions to make.

Speaking live on Sky Sports (11 May), after a 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen, both Vaclav Cerny and Leon Balogun admitted that they have no idea what their future holds.

Ferguson was then asked whether that is an issue because of the lack of clarity over both the manager and ownership situation at Ibrox, effectively pleading with the board to get on with things.

The interim boss replied: “I’m not involved, but I do think it’s an issue. Players are out of contract, players on loan are going back to their clubs.

“Nobody knows who will be in charge. I’ve already said a decision needs to be made quickly. There’s six days left of the season, then pre-season is upon us in June, so there needs to be a decision made as quickly as possible.”

49ers need to take control at Rangers

Although it cannot be stated as 100 per cent certain, there is only a small chance that the 49ers takeover at Rangers won’t go through and therefore, plans need to start being put in place.

It has been reported that Rangers could be waiting until June to see completion, which means more uncertainty at the end of the campaign as those involved sit waiting patiently.

However, with Thelwell having already had conversations with Ferguson over his future, it’s clear that the new owners are able to get inside the walls and start putting things in place.

Whether or not Ferguson will be the boss is yet to be seen, but the 49ers surely have a good idea of what they are set to do and some clarity is needed.

Cerny has done well at Ibrox this season and supporters will be eager to see him return on a permanent basis, but if he doesn’t know what the future holds, he could well turn to an offer elsewhere instead.

Playing the waiting game isn’t easy, but the 49ers have to be prepared to take some control early on, ensuring they can hit the ground running.
