Bucs Sign Most Famous Rookie Free Agent To 3-Year Contract

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially have Shilo Sanders on the roster. ... an interesting story at the very least given that he is the most famous rookie free agent around.

Shilo, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and former standout Florida State defensive back Deion and the brother of QB Shedeur, on Friday agreed to a three-year, $2.965 million contract to begin his pro career ahead of the Bucs' rookie minicamp

Sanders is wearing No. 28.

Like his more famous younger brother, Shedeur in Cleveland, Shilo is beginning his professional career this season.

Shilo played two years at South Carolina before joining his father and brother at Jackson State for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Sanders finished his collegiate career at Colorado with his brother and father in 2023 and 2024.

Across a six-year college career, Sanders notched 217 total tackles with 160 solo and six for loss, one sack, six interceptions, including a pick-6, two fumble recoveries, including one scoop-and-score, and seven forced fumbles in 52 games.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, who also serves as the team's defensive coordinator, had high praise for Shilo.

“Like the rest of the safeties, he’s very intelligent. He’s very loud. You can hear him today, making calls and everything, so he has a good grasp of things Day 1,” Bowles said.

“There were about three or four of them that did. He was one of them, but you have to make plays in pads. That’s what it comes down to – knowing what to do and then doing it consistently, and constantly getting better every day."

Shilo now moves from being a name to being a player ... maybe.
