4 Key Takeaways From Day 2 of Bears Rookie Mini-Camp

The Chicago Bears completed Day 2 of rookie mini-camp, and it was another successful day. Here are my four biggest takeaways from Saturday’s action.

Eric Bieniemy Brings the Energy

Eric Bieniemy is proving to be a fantastic addition to Ben Johnson’s coaching staff. He’s all business, all the time. The intensity he brought while coaching up the Bears running backs was impressive to watch. Bieniemy embodies what it means to be a football coach, and his presence is exactly what this Bears team needed.

Caleb Williams Is Putting in Extra Hours

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

While Caleb Williams isn’t participating in rookie mini-camp, Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle revealed that the rookie quarterback is still hard at work at Halas Hall. Williams has been putting in extra hours to stay ahead of schedule for training camp.

“He’s here after hours trying to get it right… He came in last Saturday and he’s in the indoor trying to walk through it by himself,” Doyle shared.

Ozzy Trapilo Looks the Part

At 6′8″, there were concerns that Ozzy Trapilo might look a little awkward on the field — but so far, he’s proving the doubters wrong. Trapilo has primarily lined up at left tackle and has looked the part. While pads aren’t on yet, making these early impressions something to take with a grain of salt, Trapilo has been impressive.

Kyle Monangai Is Trending Up

Seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai is starting to turn heads. He’s showing flashes that resemble a smaller version of David Montgomery. No pads yet, so evaluations are early, but Monangai is a name to keep an eye on as the competition heats up in the Bears running back room.
