Chelsea fans are very upset with Nicolas Jackson’s reckless red card in their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United. The loss has left the Blues’ Champions League dreams hanging precariously in the balance.
The Senegalese striker was red-carded in the first half for elbowing Sven Botman. It left the Blues short and made their early goal disadvantage even more consequential after Sandro Tonali had opened the scoring after just two minutes.
Though they mounted a desperate second-half charge, Chelsea could not push for an equalizer. Eventually, Bruno Guimaraes’ deflected 90th-minute shot sealed it for Newcastle. The win puts the Magpies into third place in the Premier League, three points ahead of Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Blues now have a difficult task of staying in the top five with two games left to play.

Enzo Maresca speaks about Nicolas Jackson red card as Chelsea lose
Frustration was evident in manager Enzo Maresca. Reports surfaced online that revealed that the coach did not even look Jackson’s way when the player walked to the tunnel. Maresca had the following to say to the press after the game:
“I didn’t speak to Nico, it’s not the moment. We will speak in the next day. No doubt he has to learn from it, especially at this stage of the season where we have two more games. You have to avoid this kind of thing…”
Jackson’s red card was elevated from a yellow after a VAR check. It will keep him out for the rest of Chelsea’s domestic season after he received a three-game ban for serious foul play. Chelsea now have no established striker, as Christopher Nkunku is injured. Other available options for forwards are either unavailable or in bad form.
Chelsea’s following league games are against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, both of which are vital in their bid for the Champions League. The lack of a striker places immense pressure on Maresca’s team, who now have to seek other solutions if they are to save their season.
