‘I need to check my heart!’ - Flick jokes about Barca’s Clasico win

Hansi Flick has joked that watching Barcelona is bad for his health after seeing [his team come back from 2-0 down to beat bitter rivals 4-3 in El Clasico on Sunday](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/11/24426146/barcelona-real-madrid-la-liga-el-clasico-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions).

The victory means Flick has now beaten Real Madrid on all four occasions he has come up against them this season in all competitions.

Sunday’s win also means that Barca are on the verge of completing a league and cup double in Flick’s first season in charge.

Here’s what he made of it all:

> “This is for the fans and the players. It’s fantastic. Madrid has a great team. We managed to come back from 2-0 down and after the Milan game, after more than 120 minutes. It wasn’t easy to deal with this, and we did very well. I’m going to have to check my heart!” he told TV.

>

> “I think we have to improve a lot, defensively. When we press, everything goes well, but when you make a mistake, especially on that first goal, everything gets complicated. The team makes good collective decisions. We had great players in front of us. It’s not an excuse, but it’s not easy not being able to train for this type of thing every three days. We have to improve, and we’re already thinking about preseason to improve all of this.

> “It’s not easy managing the whole team, but they have a fantastic spirit. They like to play, train, compete, and I think if you have the intensity in training, it’s easier in the game. Having a good training session makes you better in matches.”

After a hectic week, Barcelona now have a few days rest before heading into a Catalan derby with Espanyol on Thursday night.
