Chelsea fought bravely with ten men but they were always facing an uphill battle against Newcastle following Nicolas Jackson’s red card in the first half.
The Blues got off to a disastrous start, conceding in the 2nd minute. Sandro Tonali scuffed the ball home after being left unmarked in the box from a cross.
Enzo Maresca‘s side controlled the game for the most part in the second half, producing several half-chances to equalise.
However, their hopes of salvaging anything from the game were dashed when Bruno Guimaraes’ deflected effort went in with just minutes left on the clock.
